#Dividend Update: February 2017

February 2017: Dividend Update

Nothing much to report this time around.

I bought 5 more shares of BEI because the price dipped around -8% after some bad Fourth Quarter results.

However, I think the company remains solid and it should benefit from a rebound in energy prices due to their exposure in Alberta.

For now it offers a nice 5% yield.

It might be a little expensive at these prices, but I am comfortable holding BEI for the long-term.

I also purchased 100 shares of  ICC which is a cannabis producer listed on the TSX Venture Exchange.

Normally, I wouldn't purchase stocks that do not pay dividends simply because it's not my investing style.

I prefer not to speculate on price swings.

My play in ICC is more of a "fun" stock purchase meant to be purely speculative.

And purely for fun.

Dividend Payout Breakdown

  • BEI - $0.94
  • TNT - $2.48
  • ALA - $0.88
  • CIX - $1.15

Total Payout: $5.45

How To Manage #FOMO

What is FOMO?

The "Fear of Missing Out", or FOMO, is a feeling every trader will experience at some point.

It is a powerful counterpart to the other feeling traders battle daily: Greed.

Market are always moving and the movement is impossible to predict, even with technical analysis.

Nobody knows what the market will do next.

Media outlets prey on people's fears and love to embellish every story, usually blowing things out of proportion, and usually creating some degree of panic or fear.

Why FOMO Happens

FOMO starts when you haven't been able to get a position and the market starts to move.

Or when there's a lot of hype and you weren't one of the early adopters.

You experience the fear you're going to miss out on profit.

It is important to not let FOMO affect your trading, otherwise you will always be chasing price and you will burn your account to the ground.

How to Stop FOMO

The best way I've found to deal with FOMO is to remind myself that although I may have missed a move...

There will always be another!

Every moment I spend kicking myself for not being able to better predict the outcome is time spent not looking for the next profitable move.

It's impossible to capture every move in the market.

Don't even try to do so or you will burn out, both emotionally and monetarily.

Also, keep your media intake to a minimum. Focus on learning and learning and studying for yourself. Don't just listen to the pundits!

#Dividend Income Update - January 2017

Welcome to the year 2017.

I'm still a pretty small-time investor and my dividend payments are small.

It's hard to stay focused sometimes.

It's hard to not allow envy to cloud my judgement.

I see some other folks out here blogging about their experiences and sharing their payouts.

When I read these blogs I think to myself, "crap I have a long road ahead of me."

All I can do is use their experiences to empower my own journey towards my personal wealth goals and financial freedom.

2017 is a huge year for GIGANTIC life changes. For instance, my partner and I just found we're expecting out first child!

It's an amazingly glorious surprise and we are incredibly excited!

It was a surprise though, and it has made us start to rethink our financial goals.

Goals for the New Year

This year we are setting 3 goals:

  1. Increase Our Income
  2. Save (even more) Aggressively
  3. Don't Incur Debt

The ultimate goal being (of course) to ensure our family will be financially secure.

It's time for a breakdown of my dividend income this month.

Dividend Income for January 2017: $13.48

Individual payments are broken down as follows:
  • ALA - $0.88
  • AQN - $1.37
  • BCE - $3.41
  • BEI.UN - $0.94
  • CIX - $1.15
  • CWB - $1.15
  • RSI - $0.18
  • T - $1.92
  • TNT.UN - $2.48

Some companies I'm investigating further are HBCVSNPKI and FFH. I might also increase my long-term position in FTS or ALA
